The Century ends, up and past like a swell.
The Century ends; comes a new in its stead.
But don't trust your eyes when they say that all's well,
And don't believe love when she says she is dead.

Entering you, we believed we were on the right track,
We rolled into the world in a thunder of wheels.
You seemed great at the time; not so great, looking back,
Who dared plunder the Heavens and steal our ideals?

Stay with us always. Rest you in peace.

We plunged into the web, but drifted out dry,
Men are raising new gods to enforce the old ways,
Bethel's star sleeps serene in its seat in the sky,
We're like so many rats, running laps through a maze.

The dining room table receives its last rub,
Ever sacred the spot where men feasted on men,
The memorial candles have burnt to a stub,
Someone's building an ark, as the rains start again.

Stay with us always. Rest you in peace.

You started out well; you shone with a gleam,
Tawny blimps towing Eden in a tangle of ropes,
But the tower of Babel dreams a great phallic dream,
And drowns in the mire of impossible hopes.

Listen up, Century, for the rumors abound,
Eager gun barrels gleam in the gathering murk,
Death will win in the end -- take a good look around:
We'll all fade like the famed Cheshire Cat and his smirk.

Stay with us always. Rest you in peace.

Twenty minutes past midnight, the world is unchanged.
"Millenium's" just a sweet word for a day.
I don't know what the waves and the winds rearranged,
I know only that love never dwindles away.
I know only that love never dwindles away.
I know only that love never dwindles away.
